I read the forums and went in to the control panel and disabled USB selective suspend setting under the power options, as advised to in the sticky post on this forum. OK it worked for a while, like a few hours, then without anything changing whatsoever on my machine, just started acting strangely in the above described way. The solution is to uninstall it completely and reinstall the updated firmware (which I had already done). Just emits random keys when I type on it.
